What we're usually asked- 01What exactly does Carmiq do?
- Carmiq is an independent software and AI studio based in Mexico City. We design, build, and operate production-grade systems — not demos — across four practices: AI automation, product engineering, fintech platforms, and technical advisory (including fractional CTO).
- 02Are you an agency?
- No. Carmiq is a studio. Engagements are led by the founder and senior engineers working directly with the client. There is no account-manager layer and we do not resell work to subcontractors.
- 03Where are you based and who do you work with?
- We're based in Mexico City and work remotely with teams across Mexico, the United States, and the rest of Latin America. Contracts and invoicing are available in USD or MXN.
- 04What tech stacks do you build on?
- Frontend: Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript. Backend: FastAPI (Python), Ruby on Rails, Node.js. Data: PostgreSQL, Redis, pgvector. AI: Claude, OpenAI, LangChain/LangGraph, LlamaIndex. Cloud: Vercel, AWS.
- 05Do you know Mexican fintech regulation?
- Yes. The founder is an active CTO in the Mexican fintech sector. We regularly work with SAT (CFDI 4.0), Buró de Crédito, CONDUSEF, REUNE, Mifiel, Metamap, CoDi, SPEI, and ISO 8583 payment processing via Prosa and CyberSource.
- 06What engagement formats do you offer?
- Fixed-scope projects (6–16 weeks), fractional-CTO retainers (2–3 days per week for 3+ months), hourly technical advisory, and occasional own-product work. Projects are quoted after a one-week discovery.
- 07What is your pricing?
- It depends on the format. Projects are quoted after discovery. Fractional-CTO retainers and advisory are priced in USD. We share rates during the first call — there is no public rate card.
- 08Do you take equity instead of cash?
- Occasionally, for fractional-CTO retainers with well-aligned founders. It is not the default.
- 09What is your current availability?
- Q2 2026. We accept about two new projects per quarter to protect quality.
- 10Do you sign NDAs?
- Yes. We sign a standard mutual NDA before any detailed discussion.
